“I drink red wine for my health.”

We all said that while sharing bottle after bottle. Check out this article from The Guardian:

“This study makes clear that on balance there are no health benefits from drinking alcohol, which is usually the case when things sound too good to be true.”

Extra glass of wine a day ‘will shorten your life by 30 minutes

  1. Ethanol is a poison, and there is no getting around it. We had it in every chemistry lab I’ve worked in and it was labeled as such. It’s a potent chemical solvent. ANY amount, even a “moderate” amount, is you making the conscious decision to put a toxic substance into your body. The health benefits from red wine that people speak of don’t come from the alcohol, they come from things like reservatrol and other antioxidant compounds that 1) you don’t necessarily need, lots of things have lots of different antioxidant compounds, and 2) you can get a lot of the beneficial compounds in wine if you really want them from grape juice or in a non-alcohol containing tablet. No, this whole “red wine is good for you” is bullshit and yet another excuse I used to use to keep drinking!!

    1. So true! But the alcohol industry spends a lot of money to convince us that it’s basically just another food group. I used to work in a lab also, and there were huge glass jugs of ethanol with skull and crossbones labels on them. Still, people stole them and presumably made some awful drinks using this pure poison. (You have to disguise the chemical reek.) Ugh! If only they advertised alcohol as poison …. we might have fewer drinkers. 🙂

      1. Seriously. It’s a great money-making racket they have there, and so sad!! They need to put bigger warning labels on the bottles like they do with cigarettes. And OMG! People stole the lab ethanol?? That is insane, but does not surprise me!!

    1. The damage can be undone! I feel sooo much better than I used to. I had no idea that aching joints and back pain were actually related to alcohol. And also the memory lapses and inability to think and mood swings and irritability and anger and depression. It all gradually went away, or is so lessened that I hardly notice it. Seems there are benefits to stopping the daily ingestion of poison. 😀
