For those of you who think I might be a little “out there,” I’m about to prove it:
Tomorrow, I’m flying to Chicago to attend a Sonia Choquette workshop. I can’t wait!
I’ll have three days to delve into intuition, chakras, spiritual healing, and dancing sober. And not even my mother’s deep deep disapproval of anything “psychic” can stop me. (She always points to a 60 Minutes show that she watched 30 years ago in which an elderly woman gave all her money to a gypsy.)
Sorry, Mom.
Then again, my mom has no idea I have a sober blog, or that I’m writing a book about my journey to sobriety.
There is much much disapproval and chagrin in my mother’s future. I can hear her now, embarrassed to go to the grocery store in case someone who knows her also knows me and also knows about that whole drinking thing, which was much better swept under the rug, like women did in her generation.
Best epitaph ever: She Never bothered her neighbors.
(Someone out there remind to take down this post around publication time.)
No matter. I’m on a roll.
I don’t recognize the name of the person you are going to see, but that shit sounds right up my alley. We didn’t get clean in hopes of getting boring, we got clean (or sober, you choose your word) to be happy. Sounds like you are doing it right. Have a blast!

The best thing I’ve heard all day: “We didn’t get clean in hopes of getting boring.” In truth, that’s exactly what I thought would happen. It’s so not true!!! It may take a while, but WOW, it’s worth the wait.
Sonia wrote a book years ago called “Diary of a Psychic” and this launched her career in publishing and speaking tours, etc. She’s pretty amazing. ; )

Sounds like the old me (pre-drinking me) would have loved that workshop and its in Chicago my home for 10 years. I hope you have a fab time and your mom doesn’t find out ha ha.

I have yet to see Chicago. The workshop is on the west side of town in Itasca, so it’s kind of out of the way. I bet living there was a lot of fun. So much to do!

Your mom has to do her, and you have to do you. It’s a testament to your strength that you’d even consider writing a book about something so personal, and if it were my own daughter, I’d be tremendously proud. My Mom is like yours — I’m probably a constant disappointment. I just can’t care all that much that she disapproves of so many things I do. Have a great time in Chi-town!

Thank you! I have a lot of compassion for my mom because any woman who grew up in the 50s had to overcome a lot of society-type B.S. I know what you mean about being proud of my own daughter — I’m OK with pretty much anything she does. I just want her to be happy.
I’m looking forward to Chi-town except for the whole cold and windy part. ;

Awesome.
I taught a yoga class centred around muladhara chakra last night. It was very nice.
My mom thinks I’m out there too.
In my regular life I’m a chemical engineer at a major oil company. Life is full of surprises. Lol

I would love to take your yoga class! In my regular life, I was an editor for Internal Auditors. Ha ha!
But I was still out there as far as editors go. ; )

Thank you! I want that cape badly. When I found the photo, I was thinking “Wow, I wish I had that towel (or cape)!”
I am looking forward to having a stellar time, though I’m already tempted by all of the mini-cartons of Ben and Jerry’s.

Ha! Everyone I give a shit about knows I blog. Some of them may have read it, some probably never will…but I become more confident and care less about being ‘out there’ as time goes by. I laughed when I read ‘Sorry, Mom’ because I TOTALLY get that. Just today I told my Mum that I wrote the blog about the day Dad died. I said to her “sorry! I used lots of big sweary words in it. I nearly took them out (true!) incase Dad would think it was disrespectful”. My Mum is extremely proud of me, even if she hasn’t a clue what I do. She tells people my stories – even when I’m with her. Occasionally she says: ‘You tell them, you tell it better than me.’
Like, duh!
I’m fascinated by the fact that you’re writing a book. I must have known that…surely? (Don’t call me Surely). 😊.
I’d love to say that that stuff’s up my alley, but it’s not. I don’t disapprove though, not at all! I hope you have a wonderful time. And I can’t wait for you to be published. Proud of you xx

HAHA!! A gypsy. Omg. Excited for you and your hippie dippy trip! Cannot wait to hear about it. I’m sure your mother will be completely horrified and consider chakra a dirty word.
